Biography

Dimos Bouramas was born in Leivanates Lokridos in the prefecture of Fthiotidos in 1959. He completed his high school and high school studies at the Filotheis High School in 1978. He was admitted after exams to the Military School of Officer Corps in the same year and at the same time to the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After completing his University Studies, he was sworn in as a Medical Ensign and enlisted in the Navy. He served consecutively in the Greek Navy, in the Destroyer “Shaktouris” and in the Greek Navy and received his degree in Diving Medicine from the Navy. He then completed his training in Neurosurgery at KAT Hospital in Kifissia and received the title of Neurosurgery in December 1993, after examinations. In 1997 he became a Doctor of Neurosurgery at Demokritio Univ. Thrace developing the topic: “Clinical and Biological behavior of meningiomas of the brain”. He served as a Supervising Neurosurgeon at the NNA and in 1999 he moved to London where he retrained at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery “Queen Square” in the field of skull base surgery, upper cervical spine and related techniques under the instructions of Prof. Alan Crockard. After his return to Greece, he continued to serve as a Neurosurgeon in the Greek National Army, but at the same time he also trained in Neuroendoscopy of the brain under the instructions of Prof. Axel Pernescky in Mainz, Germany. In the following years he served in the NNA and from 2005 as the Director of the Neurosurgery Clinic until his retirement in 2014 as Chief Physician. During this time he was elected Vice-President and subsequently President of the Hellenic Spine Society in 2010, promoting this institution and actively participating in
educational activity to date. After his retirement from the Navy, he took over the Directorate of the Neurosurgery Department of the Athens Bioclinic and organizes the annual Cervical spine Cadaveric Course, continuing his educational effort in the scientific community. He was recently elected a member of the Disciplinary Council of the Hellenic Neurosurgery Society.
